A WORLD OF CREATIVITY AND INNOVATION
Nine decades at the top have given Atab an international reputation for quality, service and reliability in the field of roofing systems (Polygum, Spectraroof & Aqualine), waterproofing products (Atabprofi, Aquaplan), floor engineering (Asphaltco) and comprehensive solutions for terraces & façades (TFE), and waterproofing of civil engineering works.
In 2003 Atab is still a company in full expansion and export oriented.
The world of Atab is a world of creativity and continual innovation.
You will be shown evolutions in roof systems, civil engineering systems, standardisation, environmental aspects, architecture, construction physics, reports from all over the world.
FACTS & FIGURES
• Over 18 million square metres of roofing membranes were produced in 2002 in Antwerp and Polygum took the lion's share.
• Since its creation Atab has produced over 1.000 million square metres of roofing membranes
• 70% was exported to around 60 countries, in all continents.
THE IKO GROEP
In 2002, Atab joined the Canadian IKO Group, world leader in waterproofing products. The IKO Group has more than 20 manufacturing locations, especially in Canada but also strongly present in the US, France, UK and the Benelux. IKO is in Europe mainly known as manufacturer of asphalt shingles. For Atab, world leader in waterproofing and more especially in the manufacturing of quality membranes for flat roofs, this means a growth by synergy and expansions. Now already Atab is expressly present in Western and Central Europe, the Mid- and the Far East. Our philosophy : ’Setting the Standard in Roofing and Waterproofing’. With products of high quality, continuous innovation, creativity and a professional marketing and market approach.
A LITTLE STORY ABOUT THE HISTORY OF ATAB
It all began around 1911 with the establishment of the "Antwerpsche Asphaltfabriek" (Antwerp Asphalt Works). An enviable position of market leader in roofing materials
which has not only been maintained but also widely and internationally extended. We are also at the top as a contractor for waterproofing works and also as a manufacturer of liquid waterproofing products in the professional and DIY sectors. Very recently we invested
in the production of bituminous Aqualine corrugated sheets. In the mid seventies Atab began a revolution in the market place with the introduction of a new range of polyester
roofing membranes with APP-modified bitumen: POLYGUM. In effect this means that the oldest Polygum roofs have already proven their reliability for over 20 years. Since then a lot has happened. Polygum is the brandname of a global range of a "new generation" of roofing
membranes developed in our research centre specifically according to the method of application and also "made-tomeasure" to the regulatory requirements.
As an example we can cite the Polygum Civil Engineering Range with the Polyrail, Polystrong and Polyroad hightechnology membranes. As the names indicate they are
specifically used for applications with high-performance requirements (HST-works, tunnels, bridges, roadworks, ...). A recent innovation was the revolutionary Polygum Quadra
system. A roofing membrane which was developed for partial torch-on with a unique built-in vapour diffusion layer. In short, these are systems, which even go beyond the
standards.
1997 a new production line of bituminous sheets Aqualine, multi-layered and vacuum technology.
1998 was the year of the launch of Polygum Prevent: the roofing membrane with the highest fire resistance and safety for man and environment. Asphaltco ( a 100% sister company of Atab) started in 1999 with TFE Terrace & Façade Engineering, a total concept for waterproofing with quartz systems for balconies and terraces, concrete renovation and reparation systems. In 2002 the group launched the revolutionary Spectraroof® TPE roofing systems: a polymer single roof concept.
